We Say Thank You

Words written for the #WeSayThankYou Project, a charity to show appreciation for those helping in the fight against COVID-19.

The super staff of the supermarkets,

Delivery, postal, waste removal and more

Farmers, teachers, carers we all adore

Our doctors, nurses, scientists and medics

Police, army, firefighters due such credit

They are our angels in earth suits who never give in,

The warriors of our generation who endure to win

Together we stand on the shoulders of these giants

Together a grateful nation determined in defiance

They hold us up, dazzling horizons of hope on show

While their actions tell tales full of heart and heroes

Firing up our souls is their superpower,

A festival of fortitude in our darkest hour

As close to a million volunteers rallied to the call

A country inspired by our greatest of all

Heartened by these leaders of humankind,

As they create an army of humans kind

We stay at home to stay protected,

To help these heroes, we do what’s expected

We would be nothing without their care,

Stranded without belief, dizzy and scared

Let appreciation, gratitude, thanks and praise

Rain down upon you now and always

Never asked for, but forever deserved

Never could it equal your duty served

Your sacrifice is our privilege 

Your commitment is our honour

What could we do to hail our heroes true

But band together as #WeSayThankYou
